Introduction

ear Parents,

Thank you for your interest in the Portland Waldorf School. Your inquiry is part of a rising wave of interest in Waldorf education in Oregon and around the world.

People are drawn to the Portland Waldorf School because of our caring, personal atmosphere, our dynamic community, our unique and effective approach that integrates the arts throughout the curriculum from parent/child classes, pre-kindergarten through high school, and our attention to a child’s spirit and imagination as well as his/her intellect.

Now in its 21st year, the Portland Waldorf School is the largest Waldorf school in the Pacific Northwest, and is one of only two (out of 20) in the Northwest that is a member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America. As of 2001, PWS is fully accredited. The school has approximately 300 students and 50 faculty/staff. Our curriculum includes German and Spanish (both beginning in Grade 1), drama and music beginning in Grade 1, movement, handwork, and other subjects.

The development of our High School marks a significant development in the educational life of our region. The primary goal of Waldorf education is to instill in children a life-long love of learning and to help children meet their highest potential. However, one by-product of Waldorf education is that 95 percent of students who graduate from Waldorf high schools in the United States go on to finish at least a bachelor’s degree. Thank you for your interest in Waldorf education and PWS – enjoy your visit to our website.
